Allora is a pleasant South East Queensland service township in the Darling Downs 158 km s-w of Brisbane. It sits on the New England Hyway and its name is said to mean ‘swampy place’ an apt description for its location on Dalrymple Creek. Allora was settled by graziers in 1840s and prospered thanks to the district’s rich soil. Its historic townscape has been well-preserved and exudes a welcoming country feel. Goomburra Forest Reserve (40 km east) a wildlife refuge offering excellent bushwalks and stunning lookouts.
