Aramac is a quiet Outback service centre located 1 137 km n-w of Brisbane. Pastoralists settled in 1860s and the town’s unusual name is an acronym of a 19th century Qld premier’s name, R.R. Mackenzie. Aramac relies on two Great Artesian Basin bores for its water supply. Of interest nearby is Lake Dunn - a freshwater swimming/fishing lake, Lake Galilee - saltwater birdwatcher’s paradise and Forest Den NP located 110 km north.
