Auburn SA 5451 (Pop 680)

 

Auburn is an historic township considered the Clare Valley’s southern gateway. Located 109 km north of Adelaide, it was originally named Tateham’s Waterhole after its first settler and renamed after a town in Ireland. Pastoral settlement began in 1830s with Auburn becoming an important stopover point for early bullock drays transporting goods across the state. Today it is a major tourist destination with a number of local wineries to further entice visitors.
