Ayr is a thriving Townsville region township on the Bruce Hwy 1 249 km n-w of Brisbane. It is home to Australia’s most productive sugar cane fields as well as largest mango growing area. Ayr is located 17 km inland but sits on the Burdekin River linked to its 'twin town', Home Hill by the Silver Link bridge (1 097 m). Several lagoons, beaches and creeks nearby offer great fishing and water sports. Markets 3rd Sun each month. Water Festival (Sept).
