Balaklava is an attractive Clare Valley township on the Wakefield River located 92 km north of Adelaide. Established in 1870 and named after the Battle of Balaklava, this historic town with many old style sandstone buildings is today an important rural service centre. Balaklava Cup (Aug).

May Tce features local agricultural & historic artefacts and memorabilia. Open (2pm-4pm) 2nd & 4th Sun each month. Courthouse Gallery, Edith Tce local and touring art exhibitions. Open (2pm-4pm) Thurs/Fri/Sun.  Urlwin Park Agricultural Museum, Short Tce old farming equipment, working telephone exchange and other interesting displays. Open Sat am. Lions Club Walking Trail well signposted 3 km Wakefield River walking track.

Nearby:
Devils Gardens
(7 km n-e) pretty recreational area surrounded by river box gum trees. The Rocks Reserve (10 km east) pleasant 11 ha reserve with river walking trails and unusual rock formations. Port Wakefield (25 km west) picturesque Gulf St Vincent former cargo port popular for fishing, crabbing and swimming. Wineries and Riesling Trail a fun walkway/cycleway on the old Clare-Auburn railway line which has been covered with gravel.
