Barton is an inner Canberra suburb located 5 km south of the CBD. Abutting Kingston, Parkes, Forrest and Manuka, this pretty suburb on Lake Burley Griffin is said to be Australia’s most social-economic advantaged area. It was named after the country’s first Prime Minister, Sir Edmund Barton and is home to mostly government and national institutions such as the Dept of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Attorney-General’s Dept and Dept of Foreign Affairs & Trade and sits adjacent to Parliament House. Barton has few shops but does contain the Charles Sturt University campus, Australian Federal Police College and several parks - Telopea, York, Bowen, Grevillea.
