Berri SA 5343 (Pop 5 000)
Berri is an important Murray River wine and orange juice producing area as well as being a rural service centre. Located 233 km n-e of Adelaide, it was named after the Aboriginal word ‘Bery Bery’ meaning ‘wide bend in the river’. Following an irrigation program (1910) vineyards and orchards were established almost overnight and it was proclaimed a town the next year. Today Berri continues to successfully produce quality products and is home to Australia’s largest orange juice company. Riverland Rodeo (Jan), Speedboat Spectacular (Feb), Art & Craft Fair (Nov).
