Bombala is a picturesque and peaceful rural centre 484 km s-w of Sydney. Located in the Monaro district in the south east corner of NSW, Bombala sits at an elevation of 747 m and winters get very cold. The Bombala River is noted for its excellent trout fishing and platypus spotting. Europeans settled the area from 1830s and substantial growth followed with Bombala even considered for Federal Capital in early 1900s. Important industries include sheep, cattle, timber and vegetables. Markets 1st Sat each month.
