Breakwater is a Geelong residential and industrial suburb located 5 km s-e of the city centre. Set on the lovely Barwon River, it is home to the Geelong Racing Club, Geelong Racecourse and Geelong Showgrounds. Breakwater was established in 1837, named after a rock ford over the river and covers an area of 3.1 sq km.
