Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland and Australia's third largest city. It is located on the Brisbane River on the state's South-East coast between Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range. Named in honour of Sir Thomas Brisbane (NSW Governor (1821-5), Brisbane was only incorporated as a city in 1902. The city hosted the Commonwealth Games (1982), Expo’ 88 and Goodwill Games (2001).  Brisbane’s economy is based on information technology, financial services, petroleum, paper & metal working industries and of course, tourism. Popular restaurants, cafes and nightspots can be found in the Fortitude Valley, City, West End and South Bank. Museums and attractions include Museum of Brisbane, St. John’s Cathedral, Customs House, City Botanic Gardens, Parliament House, Old Windmill, Queensland Museum, Queensland Art Gallery, State Library of Queensland, Queensland Maritime Museum.
