Bruthen is a small rural community on the Great Alpine Rd and gateway to the Snowy Mountains. Established here in 1870, this friendly East Gippsland village is located 306 km east of Melbourne near the Tambo River. Bruthen is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘long wooden point’. Bruthen Blues & Arts Festival (Feb).

Historic Bruthen includes St Matthews Church and the Post Office (1890s). 

Nearby:
East Gippsland Rail Trail follows the old railway line from Bairnsdale to Orbost for almost 100 km and popular for walking, cycling and horseriding. Fairy Dell Scenic Reserve (10 km west) spectacular rainforests of lilly pilly and tree ferns and recreational facilities.
