Burra Mine

Burra SA 5417 (Pop 1 150)

Burra is a fascinating Clare Valley historic copper town located 154 km north of Adelaide. Following copper discoveries (1845), individual settlements sprang up reflecting the miners’ homelands (Aberdeen - Scottish, Llychwr - Welsh, Hampton - English, Redruth - Cornish). Fortunately when copper supplies were exhausted, Burra became an important rural service centre and in 1994 a State Heritage town attracting growing numbers of visitors annually.  Jailhouse Rock Festival (Feb), Twilight Jazz Affair (Mar), Antique & Decorating Fair (May).
