Camooweal Qld 4828 (Pop 240)
Camooweal is a remote Gulf Savannah settlement 2 013 km n-w of Brisbane. Qld’s most westerly township is situated just 13 km east of the NT border on the Barkly Hwy. Camooweal was established in 1880s as a service centre for the surrounding farming district and today it is also a convenient stopping point before entering the NT. Of interest to the visitor is the town’s museum, historic cemetery and Camooweal Caves NP (8 km south). Covering almost 14 000 ha of woodlands and spinifex featuring numerous sinkhole caves still evolving due to the continuous water flows.
