Camperdown is a pleasant Great Ocean Road region service centre 194 km s-w of Melbourne. It sits at the foot of a large volcanic cone, Mt Leura within the world’s third largest volcanic plain. Following Aboriginal occupation, European pastoralists arrived in 1840s and original Purrumbete homestead (1842) still stands. Dairying, cattle & fat lamb industries thrive in the fertile surrounding district. There are several interesting heritage walks around town and numerous scenic lakes surround Camperdown.
