Casterton is an historic Grampians rural service centre on the Glenelg River 381 km west of Melbourne. Established in 1840s, the town’s name in Roman means ‘walled city’ which may refer to the picturesque surrounding hills. Casterton is also known as ‘Kelpie Country’ as the world renowned working dog breed originated here in 1880s. Main industries include mixed farming, pastoral, timber & dairying. Vintage Car Rally (Mar), Casterton Cup (May), Australian Kelpie Muster & Auction (June/July).
