Charlton is a small pleasant Goldfields town 252 km n-w of Melbourne. Scenically located on the Avoca River, Charlton was first occupied by the Jaara Aborigines prior to white settlement in 1860s. Major industries are grains, beef & wool. Art show (Oct).
