Childers is a well-preserved Fraser Coast sugar centre 310 km north of Brisbane. Located at the junction of the Isis and Bruce Hwys, this National Trust-listed town is surrounded by sugar fields and despite a devastating fire (1902) retains many of its fine historic buildings. Another tragic fire occurred in 2000 at a backpackers hostel. Just as Childers has many heritage buildings and museums of note, the surrounding district boasts many natural attractions such as state forests (Cordalba, Wongi) and national parks (Good Night Scrub, Burrum Coast).
