Cobram is a pretty Murray River township 260 km north of Melbourne on the NSW border. It is known as ‘Peaches and Cream Country’ because of its orchards and dairies. European settlement began in 1840s with cattle stations & wheat growing. Irrigation of crops began in 1890s later helped by a pumping station (1915). After WWII, a large influx of Italian migrants and a soldier settlement scheme saw the township boom with many dairy farms and orchards and a dairy co-operative being established. Other important industries include wheat, oat, wool & beef cattle. Cobram markets 1st Sat each month. Peaches & Cream Festival (odd numbered years - Jan), River Beaches Festival (Easter), Rotary Art Show (May), Antique Fair (June).

Log Cabin, Station St built in Yarrawonga (1875) and moved to current site (1977).

Murray River Beaches provide locals and visitors with great canoeing, boating, fishing, swimming & bushwalking. Between town and the river are wetland forest areas with many walking and cycling tracks. Most popular and accessible beach is Thompson’s with several others not far away. Quinn Island, River Rd waterbird haven and flora & fauna reserve with a number of Aboriginal artifacts such as middens and scar trees. Wineries are scattered east and west of Cobram and most offer tastings and sales.
