Cowell is an Eyre Peninsula service centre on narrow Franklin Harbour 487 km n-w of Adelaide. Established in 1850s and named after Sir John Clayton Cowell (Lt-Gov of Windsor Castle), today it is a pleasant town with successful jade, fishing, sheep and wheat industries. Fireworks Night (Dec).

Tourist Attractions & Info:
Franklin Harbour Historical Museum, Main St housed within the old post office and residence (1882) features historic household memorabilia, period room displays, photographs and interesting artefacts. Open by appointment. Ruston Proctor Steam Tractor Museum, Lincoln Hwy open-air displays of agricultural equipment.

Nearby:
Franklin Harbour Conservation Park (5 km south) stunning coastal reserve of mangroves and sand dunes popular for fishing and bush camping. Lucky Bay (16 km east) safe swimming area and beginning of the Victoria Pt 4WD track affording excellent harbour views. Port Gibbon (25 km south) historic shipping port with jetty remnants and sea lion sightings. Yeldulknie Weir & Reservoir (37 km west) a lovely recreational area. Arno Bay (44 km s-w) popular holiday settlement with safe beaches, jetty fishing and weekly summer yacht races.
