Comments[0] Croker Island

Croker Island

Croker Island sits off NT’s north coast in the Arafura Sea. Covering an area of 330 sq km, it measures about 15 km (width) x 43 km (length). With the exception of several small outstations, the main settlement of Minjilang, an Aboriginal community, is on the east coast (Mission Bay). The Bowen Strait separates the island from the mainland (Cobourg Peninsula and Garig Gunak Barlu NP) with traditional owners being the Yarmirr tribe. Its northern location makes Croker prone to wild tropical storms, notably Cyclone Ingrid (2005) which caused substantial damage.
