Cunnamulla is an Outback administrative centre on the Warrego River 806 km west of Brisbane. The area was settled in 1840s and the township was created by Cobb & Co who ran their coaches through this area. Sheep farming has always been and remains today the economy’s mainstay due greatly to the river’s reliable supplies and the district’s flat open plains. ‘Cunnamulla’ is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘big waterhole’. The NSW border is about 120 km south. Races (Apr), Festival of Opals (Aug), Lizard Races (Sept), Bullride Championships (Nov).
