Daintree is a charming Tropical North Queensland settlement 1 791 km n-w of Brisbane surrounded by the  rainforests of the McDowell Ranges. It was settled in 1870s and early industries included timber, dairying and beef, while today the main focus is on tourism. Saltwater crocodiles can be seen in the creeks and tributaries of the Daintree River flowing past the town.

 

Tourist Attractions & Info:
The Timber Museum, Stewart St consists of a woodworking shop, beautiful local wooden exhibits and sales as well as displays of the tools and techniques used.

 

Nearby:
Daintree NP and Cape Tribulation (2 km west) where the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics meet. This beautiful park features tropical rainforests, swamps, mangroves, beaches and many walks (from 400 m to 1.2km) The Alexandra Range lookout provides sweeping coastal views. Daintree Rainforest Environmental Centre (11 km s-e) interesting local area displays and presentations as well as rainforest boardwalks and aerial walkways.
