Dalby is a thriving South East Qld service town in the Darling Downs 216 km n-w of Brisbane. It is surrounded by rich volcanic soils growing cotton, wheat, barley and sunflowers while cattle, sheep, pig & angora goat studs also contribute significantly to the local economy. Until a WWII soldier resettlement program, Dalby was a small country town but the population influx allowed the burgeoning agricultural industries to flourish. Stunning Lake Birdwater Conservation Park (29 km s-w) is a prolific waterfowl breeding ground where many water sports may also be enjoyed when the lake is full (permit required). Cotton Week (Mar), Australian Stockhorse Show (Dec).
