Comments[0] Dumbleyung - Western Australia

Dumbleyung WA 6350 (Pop 220)

Dumbleyung is a pretty service township (and shire) in WA’s Golden Outback region 292 km s-e of Perth. Following early sandalwood cutters and pastoralists, the area was established in 1907 and its Aboriginal name is thought to be derived from the word “dambeling’ meaning large lake or sea. Dumbleyung is surrounded by cereal grain and livestock properties together with a diverse range of industries including emus, yabbies and trout. A popular nearby attraction is Dumbleyung Lake, a vast (over 5 000 ha) salt lake made famous by Donald Campbell when he broke the world water speed record (276 mph) in 1964. The Bluebird Festival held each Nov is named after Campbell’s boat.
