Elliott NT 0862 (Pop 450)

Elliott is a small settlement on the Stuart Hwy 770 km south of Darwin. Named after a Lt Snow Elliott, a WWII army camp officer, it is the only significant township between Tennant Creek and Mataranka. It is also a cattle service stop where cattle are given chemical baths to avoid ticks being transported further south.

There are walking trails throughout the town with information on local flora and details of how Aboriginals used them.

Lake Woods
(nearby) popular swimming and fishing spot. Newcastle Waters (19 km n-w) old droving town with several historic buildings including the Newcastle Waters Homestead owned by the late Kerry Packer, media mogul. Renner Springs (91 km south) Stuart Hwy roadside stop recognized as being the border between the Top End and Red Centre regions and named after an Overland Telegraph doctor who discovered the springs.
