Emerald is a picturesque township and the Dandenong Ranges first settlement. Located 55 km east of Melbourne, gold was discovered in 1850s but was rapidly depleted and Emerald emerged as a service centre. Main industries today include potatoes and tourism. Amongst the area’s many attractions are Emerald Lake Park, Puffing Billy Railway & Museum, Cardinia Reservoir Park, Bunyip State Park, Kurth Kiln Park.
