Falls Creek is Victoria’s most exclusive ski resort and is located 388 km n-e of Melbourne in High Country at 1 580 m. Development began in 1940s and it was named after some nearby waterfalls. The skiing infrastructure is excellent and there is a good selection of accommodation. The ski season officially begins in June, however Falls Creek is popular the year round for mountain biking, sailing, abseiling, horse riding, canoeing and camping. There are a number of excellent walks in the area including the Australian Alps Walking Track (655 km) and the shorter Mt Nelse (9 km return), Wallace/Cope Hut (6 km return circuit), Ruined Castle (6 km return) Fitzgerald and Kelly Huts (11 km return) to name a few.
