Fitzroy Crossing is a small sprawling Kimberley settlement on the Fitzroy River 2 503 km n-e of Perth. First established as the most suitable place to cross the Fitzroy River, it was named after an early sea captain and today serves as the gateway to nearby spectacular Geikie Gorge. Rodeo (July), Garnduwa Festival (Oct), Fishing Competition (Nov).

(Geikie Gorge Rd) site of historic township. Geikie Gorge (18 km n-e) formed by the Lennard and Fitzroy Rivers carving their way through the 350 million year old Devonian reef exposing stunningly hued cliffs and limestone rock formations. Named after an early British geologist, Sir Archibald Geikie, it is home to plentiful freshwater Johnson crocodiles, sawfish, barramundi, stingrays and sharks. Bushwalking, camping and swimming popular pursuits.
