Flinders Vic 3929 (Pop 950)
Flinders is a charming and peaceful seaside resort town located on Mornington Peninsula’s south coast 99 km south of Melbourne. Its quaint village atmosphere has been preserved and although a popular tourist destination, development and commercialism have not marred this picturesque area. Just north of Flinders are the calm waters of Westernport whilst the south is made up of rugged cliffs and wild ocean beaches. Originally occupied by the Boonwurung Aborigines, European squatter settlement began in 1840s followed by fishing & farming activities. Tourism was introduced in 1880s with the emergence of guesthouses catering to a clientele seeking a health and recreation resort. These three main industries have remained the mainstay of the town’s economy. Pinot Week (food & wine) (Mar), Flinders Art Show (June).
