Fowlers Bay is an isolated, historic settlement on the Nullarbor Plain coastline. It sits on the Great Australian Bight 929 km n-w of Adelaide within the Fowlers Bay Conservation Park. The bay was named to honour a 19th century seafaring lieutenant travelling with explorer Matthew Flinders with the area already in use by whalers. An early pastoralist formed Yalata station whose name then transferred to the small township which was established in 1890. Today Yalata refers to another township nearby. Fowlers Bay is located between Ceduna and the WA border with the nearest town, Nundroo, 40 km n-w on the Eyre Hwy. Keen fishermen and tourists are attracted to area’s rugged coastline, beautiful beaches and excellent fishing.
