Garden Island WA
Garden Island is a pretty South West region offshore island 62 km south of Perth. Linked to the mainland at Rockingham by a 4 km long causeway, it is noted for its beautiful beaches, water sports and native Tammar (small wallaby). Site of WA’s first European settlement (1827) with some remnants still visible at Cliff Head, it is today home to a Royal Australian Navy (RAN) maintenance facility comprising about 20% of the island. The remainder is open to the public (except after dark) but is only accessible by private craft.
