Geelong West is one of inner Geelong's commercial and residential suburbs. Located just 1.4 west of the CBD on Corio Bay, it was originally called Ashby and renamed in 1875. It is bounded by Drumcondra, Hamlyn Heights, Herne Hill, Newtown & Geelong city centre. Electric trams serviced the area (1912-1956) when they were replaced by buses.
