Genoa is a small East Gippsland village near the NSW border 493 km east of Melbourne. Sitting on the Genoa River and Princes Hwy, it is surrounded by two spectacular national parks - Croajingolong (south and pictured) and Coopracambra (north) for which it provides the major access point. In 1970s, a number of ancient amphibian mammal tracks were discovered in the Genoa River Gorge dating back 350 million years. Mallacoota and the coast are just over 20 km south. Both national parks offer many excellent bushwalks, diverse flora and an opportunity to spot wildlife while the wetlands around Genoa are home to flocks of black swans.
