Georgetown Qld 4871 (Pop 250) 

Georgetown is a quiet Gulf Savannah township on the Etheridge River 1 748 km n-w of Brisbane. Gold was discovered here in 1870 which resulted in the establishment of the town. When supplies dwindled, Georgetown became the district’s administrative centre for the rich surrounding grazing properties. Today it is known for its gemstone fossicking particularly for agate.
