Greenough WA 6532 (Pop 90)

Greenough is a fascinating Coral Coast settlement 398 km north of Perth. Originally a prosperous wheat growing area, natural disasters led to its decline from 1900s. Today Greenough has been substantially restored, enjoying a National Trust classification which is highly deserved. It sits on the Brand Hwy just 25 km s-e of bustling Geraldton and has retained a charm all of its own.

Historic Greenough (36 sites) including Pioneer Cemetery, Clinch’s Mill (1858), Gray’s Store (1861), Hampton Arms Inn (1863). Pioneer Museum, Brand Hwy housed within 1862 limestone cottage focuses on the area’s agricultural history. Walkway Station Museum, Evans Rd housed within the old station (1887) with interesting military weapons, transport and educational memorabilia. Leaning Gums, Greenough Flats bent almost horizontal from harsh ocean winds.

Nearby:
Flat Rocks (10 km south) surfing, swimming and rock fishing. Greenough River mouth (14 km north) ideal for watersports, birdwatching and river cruises. Ellendale Pool (23 km east) deep freshwater swimming hole.
