Halls Creek is an interesting Kimberleys township located in far north WA 2 792 km n-e of Perth. Moved from its original location (16 km away) in 1948 due to water shortages and re-routing of a main road, ‘new’ Halls Creek is a small predominantly Aboriginal settlement servicing ever increasing tourist numbers.

Trackers Hut
, behind police station restored original hut of indigenous trackers. Russian Jack Memorial, Thomas St commemorates the feat of an early gold prospector who pushed his ill friend to Wyndham in a wheelbarrow to seek medical help.

The China Wall
(6 km east) unusual white quartz formation resembling a small version of the Great Wall of China. The nearby stream is an ideal swimming spot. Caroline Pool (15 km east) deep gorge pool between two cliffs popular for swimming. Old Halls Creek (16 km east) remnants of original town with nearby graveyard. Palm Springs (45 km east) pretty swimming, fishing and recreation area. Sawpit Gorge (52 km east) fishing, swimming and picnicking. Wolfe Creek Crater (148 km south) world’s second largest meteorite crater named after an early settler, Robert Wolfe in 1880s. It has a diameter of 853 m and is thought to be about 2 million years old.  According to Aboriginal legend, it is the site where the powerful Rainbow Serpent emerged from the earth. Purnululu NP (160 km east) declared a World Heritage Area in 2003 and home to the magnificent Bungle Bungle Range - one of Australia’s outback wonders. Dating back 350 million years, the bell shaped sandstone towers have distinctive orange silica and black lichen banding. The park is also known for its Aboriginal art and traditional burial sites, dramatic caves and gorges such as Piccaninny and Cathedral.  Open Apr-Dec with 4WD access only and limited facilities. Billiluna Aboriginal Community (180 km south) bushwalking, watersports, birdwatching, camping and indigenous tours.
