Halls Gap is a pretty tourist village located in Fyans Valley in the heart of the Grampians. It sits on the eastern edge of the Grampians NP and is 254 km n-w of Melbourne. Named after early settler Charles Browing Hall who discovered the gap and valley in 1841, the area expanded thanks to nearby gold discoveries in 1860s, with tourism taking hold from 1890s. Grampians NP is a spectacular 167 000 ha park set on a rugged mountain range renowned for its Aboriginal rock art sites and huge flora & fauna varieties including 200 species of birdlife. It is also home to a third of Victoria’s native plants and endless varieties of wildflowers in spring. Attractions close to town include Lake Bellfield (swimming, fish, canoeing) and Lake Wartook (fishing, canoeing). There are several superb lookouts (Boroka, Reeds), waterfalls (Silverband, Beehive), countless scenic walking trails and the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre.
