Hamilton Island is the largest Whitsundays inhabited island used almost solely for tourism. Each August the well known Hamilton Island Race Week yachting festival is held and between July-Sept migrating whales can be spotted. Shute Harbour is just 16 km north west and access is via direct flights from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne or launches from Shute Harbour.
