Heywood is a small rural service town in the Great Ocean Road region 357 km west of Melbourne. It sits on the Fitzroy River at the junction of the Henty and Princes Hwys and is surrounded by timber, pastoral and agricultural country. The Kuurn Kopan Noot Aborigines first occupied the area followed by European pastoralists in 1850s. Nearby attractions include Mt Eccle NP, Discovery Bay NP, Mt Richmond NP, Lower Glenelg NP and Cape Nelson State Park. Also of interest is the Lake Condah Aboriginal Mission (25 km n-e).
