Hinchinbrook Island is said to be Australia’s largest island National Park. Covering over 37 000 ha and measuring 52 km long x 10 km wide, it is also the largest Great Barrier Reef island. It is actually two large islands joined by a sand isthmus and much of the vegetation is rainforest and mangroves. It is located just 5 km east of Cardwell, 160 km north of Townsville and access is by launch from Cardwell.
