The Illawarra region is the first of 4 sections of the South Coast extending towards the Victorian border. Starting from just south of Sydney’s Royal National Park, it extends to Gerroa a distance of about 100 km. This hilly coastal plain comprises a stunning mountainous escarpment with shallow Lake Illawarra at its centre. The region’s main centres include Helensburgh, Thirroul, bustling Wollongong, Port Kembla, Dapto, Shellharbour, Kiama and Gerringong.
