Ingham is an important sugar growing centre 1 444 km north of Brisbane in Far North Queensland. It was established in 1865 and named after a local citizen. Cattle and tropical fruits are an important part of the economy, however sugar predominates and Victoria Mill is said to be the Southern Hemisphere’s largest sugar mill. Kanakas were initially used to work the sugar fields and then replaced by Italian migrants, whose heritage is still felt in the area. Magnificient nearby national parks include Girringun (Lumholtz), Palmer Range, Hinchinbrook, Orpheus Island. Conroy Hall markets 2nd Sat each month and Raintree markets 3rd Sat each month.
