Ipswich is a bustling SE Qld city and commuter centre on the Bremer River 40 km s-w of Brisbane. It is the state's oldest provincial city having been established as a convict settlement in 1827 and boasts many attractive historic homes and buildings. It was originally named Limestone due to all the limestone deposits nearby. Ipswich is home to the fascinating Workshops Rail Museum and Australia's largest RAAF base. Markets each Sun. Ipswich Cup (July).
