Jabiru was initially built to accommodate and service the nearby Ranger Uranium Mine. Located 256 km east of Darwin, it is owned by the Director of National Parks & Wildlife. Jabiru is completely surrounded by the Kakadu NP and today much of the town’s focus is on tourism, providing accommodation and selling Aboriginal artifacts. Severe flooding along the Arnhem and Kakadu Hwys may be experienced during the wet season (Oct-Apr). Wind Festival (music/dance/art). (Sept).
