Junee is a charming historic Riverina town located 440 km s-w of Sydney. Original inhabitants were the Wiradjuri Aborigines with European settlement following in 1840s and the town taking its name from an early pastoral property ‘Jewnee Run’. Gold was discovered in 1860s together with increased bushranger activity. This formerly important railway town is today surrounded by pastoral and agricultural industries. The local economy is further bolstered by a privately operated correctional centre, light industries and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest wheat terminal. Junee has a number of impressive museums and historic buildings. Rodeo (Feb), Vintage & Veteran Car Rally (Apr), Monte Cristo Charity Ball (Sept), Agricultural Show (Oct).
