Kalbarri is a beautiful Coral Coast town on the Murchison River 577 km north of Perth. It sits in the heart of one of WA’s most stunning national parks, surrounding by springtime wildflower displays. Although early miners and fishermen settled here temporarily, the actual township was only established in 1951. Today Kalbarri is a popular tourist destination offering many types of watersports together with Kalbarri NP’s many attractions and activities. Wittecarra Creek (4 km south) cairn marking the spot where two ‘Batavia’ mutineers were left in 1629 making them Australia’s first white inhabitants. Kalbarri NP (57 km east) majestic 183 000 ha park with the Murchison River flowing through it which has carved out spectacular sandstone gorges of banded colours embedded with ancient fossils. Highlights include lookouts (The Loop, Z Bend, Mushroom Rock, Pot Alley) walking trails (Mushroom Rock, Coastal, Around The Loop) and activities (bushwalking, abseiling, rafting and canoeing).
