Kilcoy is a quiet South East Qld service township on the D’Aguilar Hwy 107 km n-w of Brisbane. It was first settled in 1840 and named after a Scottish family estate. Kilcoy is famed as the home of the mythical Yowie - according to ancient Aboriginal legend, a half-man/half-beast similar to the Yeti. There is a large wooden Yowie statue in town (pictured). Nearby is pretty Lake Somerset and Deer Reserve State Forest. Woodford Folk Festival (Dec/Jan).
