Leongatha is South Gippsland’s largest commercial centre and is situated 133 km s-e of Melbourne. First settled in 1840s, the township today is home to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest cooperative, the Murray-Goulburn Dairy. Leongatha Food & Wine Festival (Jan), Cycling Carnvial (Feb), South Gippsland Golf Classic (Feb), Riverfest (Mar), Daffodil & Floral Festival (Sept).

Moss Vale Park (16 km n-w) beautiful English and European themed gardens. Victorian Concert Orchestra plays here each Feb. Meeniyan (16 km s-e) a pretty small arts & crafts town. Lookouts in the area include Besterfield’s, Lancey’s, Mount Eccles and Tarwin Valley.
