This beautiful tropical island of 5 184 ha is only 8km away from Townsville with Mount Cook (497 m) being its highest point. It consists of about 40 km of coastline and its four small settlements (Horseshoe Bay, Arcadia, Nelly Bay & Picnic Bay) are all located on the eastern side, whilst some 2 500 ha of the west and centre are made up of national park. The island still enjoys a peaceful untouched feel but more tourism development is planned. Main activities include 25 kms of walking trails with native flora & fauna, numerous watersports and seasonal whale watching.
