Manilla is a pretty New England service centre 432 km north of Sydney. It sits at the junction of the Namoi & Manilla Rivers and the Fossickers Way. Originally inhabited by the Kamilaroi Aborigines, early squatter settlement began in 1820s and famous bushranger Capt Thunderbolt frequented the area in 1860s. Manilla’s location between Split Rock Dam and Lake Keepit provide for many outdoor activities. The area is also known for its mead production (fermented honey & water beverage) with one of only two Australian meaderies. NSW hang-gliding & paragliding championships (Mar), Manilla Show (Mar), Choral & Cod Festival (Sept), Festival of Spring Flowers (Oct).
